Michael Schenker's Note Re In The Midst Of Beauty: There is a note from Michael Schenker inside the sleeve of the new CD titled "In The Midst of Beauty" as follows:

"The title came about through my experience and realisation that - in the midst of beauty - the beast is always waiting ready to attack.

After the tour cancellations in summer 2007 due to disorganisation I decided to get things straightened out. After a clear vision was accomplished I moved to England and worked on reuniting the original MSG, began to write music, got together with Gary to work on vocals and started to record in Ulm (Germany) with Siggi Schwarz managing this project.

With Siggi as the organiser and helping with financial matters and Romi, a well established musician and great sound engineer, I had a strong team to achieve the goal. We contacted Simon Philips and Don Airey who were happy to work together once again and were very fortunate with Neil Murray's availability.

The album was produced by Siggi, Romi and myself with the fantastic input from Gary, Simon, Don, Neil and Michael Voss.

We would like to thank everyone who was involved and we hope that you enjoy this album."

In the credits it mentions that Simon's drums were recorded in California but all other recording was done in Germany.

Michael Schenker Interview: There is an interview with Michael Schenker in the April 2008 issue of the German "guitar" Magazine. Michael said that he was thinking about working with Joe Lynn Turner or Eric Martin (Mr. Big) before he decided to contact Gary. Besides the Dean, he used a 1992 Gibson Les Paul and a black Gibson Flying V for the rhythm guitar parts. He recorded the clean parts in Summerdays with Siggi's 1966 Fender Stratocaster. He played all the solos with his Dean. He called the Dean "the perfect lead guitar". The guitars were tuned down to D. And he used .010 - .046 strings instead of his regular .009 - .042 strings. Thanks, Bastian!!

[04/18/08 update No.4]
In The Midst of Beauty First Impression: I have given my promo copy about five listens and it is still growing on me. Gary's melody lines are all catchy. It sounds like an adult pop/rock MSG as Gary seldom shouts on this CD unlike the other previous MSG singers. He often sings in a very low key. As the rhythm tracks of TORR were recorded with Michael's Gibson, this should be the first studio album in which he plays entire backing tracks with his Dean V. I think I need to get accustomed to the new tone.

[04/18/08 update No.3]

Michael Schenker Gibson Flying V No. 1 ON SALE: I have got some messages from Martin who bought Michael Schenker's Gibson Flying V No 1 back in 2002 when Michael put it up for sale on eBay together with other guitars of his. Martin has been very busy with his business and will be even busier as he recently setup his own company, which is demanding more and more of his time. So, he has little or no time to play it anymore. Therefore, he has decided to put the 'V' up for sale, instead of the axe gathering dust. As he feels that it should be played, he wants it to go to the 'right' person, i.e., somebody who is a fan of Michael/MSG/UFO and will play the 'V'. Here is his message. (cf. 07/08/02 update and 08/03/02 update)

Michael Schenker Gibson Flying V No. 1

This is the Gibson Flying V that Michael originally sold in 2002, that is again now for sale. I would like this very special 'axe' to go to somebody in the MSG/UFO community. The guitar comes with a signed letter of authentication from Michael and its travel case. If you would like more details of the guitar, details of price and delivery please contact me on this email address:

info@tigermedialtd.co.uk

As this is a totally 'one of a kind' guitar I will be selling on a first come first serve basis at a reserve price.

I must say a big thank you to Ritchie for posting this information on his website. And for keeping up the great work you have done over the years. We all really appreciate it!

Best wishes Martin!

MS&F Hednesford Show Review: A review by Baza of Michael Schenker & Friends' gig at Tackeroo last night can be found on this messgeboard. Sounds like it went good. The excerpt of the review is as follows. Thanks, Batttttty!!

.....The Tackeroo, only a small venue (250 capacity), was sold out, and we were not disappointed. If this tour is aimed at playing small venues to win back the fans, it certainly worked last night, playing a greatest hits set, including about 5 or 6 UFO classics, Michael Schenker is back, his roadie seemed to take ages to tune up his guitars, and then go back and check them again (I don't blame him). The rest of the band gave an excellent performance, very tight, but everyone was there to see Schenker, and he didn't disappoint. Smiling and thanking the crowd throughout the set, he actually seemed to be enjoying himself......

"Just a mention re Swansea. When Michael played Sheffield on Sunday his guitar was cutting out a bit. A dodgy connection from lead to jack and it was taped up then. He even broke a string mid way through a number but carried on and played the song in a professional manner". Thank you, Andy!!

MS&F Swansea Show Review - Dark Clouds Again??: A review of Michael Schenker & Friends' Show in Swansea last night can be found on PlanetRock's messageboard. The excerpt of the review is as follows. I would like to hope and pray that the tour still goes on. Thank you for the info, Devonjohn!!

.....at 9.30 the band hit the stage and there don't seem to be any problems. In fact, Michael is really on form and we get an extra long solo during Lights Out........The night is going superb; the crowd are really on form and worshipping everything Michael does. There are so many Welsh connections to UFO and with Rockfield Studios, that Schenker is almost worshipped as a local. Then something lights the fuse............We are in Attack of the Mad Axeman and Schenker has already done one solo. Then he tries his hand at slide guitar playing. The roadie hands him the glass slider but Schenker is unhappy with the guitar and tries to change the settings. The roadie changes them back as Schenker is playing. Wrong move my friend. Schenker struggles with the slider then takes off the guitar and throws it away, storming off the stageinto the wall. The rhythm section loop while the singer looks forlorn at the stage exit door. The roadie wires up the reserve guitar. Then Schenker returns and picks up the original guitar; the roadie struggles to unplug the reserve and plug the mains into Schenker's guitar. We then get a minute of blistering guitar work that only a few of the very best can do. Then, the fuse blows again and Schenker throws the guitar at/to his roadie, who is wisely hiding behind the cabs and then Schenker is gone. The band play on a bit then they too leave.

Classic Rock Magazine Article: There is an excellent interview with Michael Schenker in the latest edition of the UK magazine Classic Rock. In it Michael talks about how things went wrong on the American tour last year and "everything was collapsing around me", causing him to turn to alcohol to help him cope. After the UK tour collapsed he went into re-hab in Germany and has not had a drink for over six months. He says the current club tour is to thank his loyal fans and to raise his profile again in advance of a much bigger MSG tour later in the year. There's also an explanation of the "Glenn Hughes" story (cf. 12/06/2007 update No.5). Apparently Glenn initially agreed to play bass on the new album but then a few days later said he also wanted to sing. Of course, Gary Barden was already signed up so that was never going to happen. Michael was annoyed that Glenn then said he didn't like Michael's music anyway!! Geoff Barton (the interviewer) has heard three tracks from the new album and reckons it is more like the classic MSG albums of the early 80's with a more Germanic feel (whatever that means!!). Thank you for the information, Les!!
