Michael Schenker is as big a name as they have had at WinterStorm, so there was palpable excitement in the air before his set. He duly appeared, sporting a Cossack hat with matching snood and that white flying-V guitar, looking energized and engaged from the outset while peeling off some exceptional guitar work. Robin McAuley is many peoplefs favourite of the various MSG singers and he delivered all of the songs brilliantly. Although Chris Glenn was in attendance and Doogie White and Graham Bonnet would appear on the Saturday, there were no guests on stage, just the core band which included Steve Mann. A full set included all the songs you would expect from the MSG and UFO song-books but it was also great to hear lesser-known classics like 'On and On' and 'Let Sleeping Dogs Lie'. 'Into the Arena', 'Cry for the Nations', 'Doctor Doctor', 'Lights Out' and 'Armed and Ready' helped to create a special atmosphere within the main hall but Schenker really sealed the deal with the final trio of UFO fan favourites 'Rock Bottom', 'Too Hot to Handle' and 'Only You Can Rock Me'. As Schenker and his band left the stage, the audience were left in no doubt that they had just witnessed one of the all-time great Winterstorm performances by a bona-fide guitar legend who will no doubt find himself immortalised in the famous Winterstorm curtains in the not-so-distant future.
