Hi Ritchie, very late report on MS&F from the Boom Boom Club in Sutton.
I've been lucky enough to see Phil Mogg and $ign of 4 at a pub Graham Bonnet and Don Airey in a marquee and Waysted in a pub. And now Michael in a football club bar. Talking to people around the room, probably a couple of hundred or so there was real excitement about seeing Michael live. For a number of the guys there it was the first time they had seen him since the first MSG tours in the early 80's.
As the lights dropped, a fit, healthy and very happy looking Michael took the stage with his friends and launched into Assault Attack kicking off an evening of outstanding rock n roll. A set balanced between MSG and UFO delighted the enthusiastic sell out crowd.
Michael was back to his fluent, flowing best and semed genuinely delighted to be playing live and to see such a positive response. The band were great and with an excellent sound mix raced through Ready To Rock, Let It Roll, Angel of Avalon, Lights Out, Into The Arena, I Want More, Too Hot To Handle, On and On, Only You Can Rock Me, Armed and Ready, Attack Of The Mad Axeman, Doctor, Doctor and Rock Bottom.
A fantastic night was topped off with tasters from Beauty and a very patient signing session.
For me, Michael is the greatest guitarist of his generation. He combines power, melody with a clarity of purpose. His is an outstanding portfolio and who knows maybe 2008 will be the year that gives Michael a new lease of life. I hope so.
